Eye Hotel was acquired by real estate and hospitality gurus Paul Westra and Hans Pieters. Both of them being true Utrechters, they want their guests to become a part of the city during their stay, experiencing all that this magical city full of charm has to offer. With a carefully assembled team of real 'people's people', to whom hospitality is their second nature, they will go to any length to provide their guests with an unforgettable stay.
Eye Hotel is located in a beautiful 17th century building which was home to an eye hospital from 1858 until 1984. The eye hospital was founded by the famous professor, Franciscus Cornelis Donders. He was director until 1883 as well as an ophthalmologist until 1862, a true superstar and pioneer in ophthalmology. When this legend passed away in 1889 his partner, Herman Snellen stepped in. Donders might be gone, but he is certainly not forgotten. In 1921 a statue of the superstar himself was placed on Janskerkhof and a street in Utrecht was named after him. In 1895 the eye hospital moved to a new and larger building.
Eye Hotel is everything but a standard hotel. All of our rooms are uniquely designed. The history of the beautiful building inspired us to create rooms for all kinds of guests.
